Civic Center Plaza

Also referred to as the Joseph L. Alioto Performing Arts Piazza, the Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco, California is located immediately east of the city hall. The 4.53-acre plaza was established in the early 1910s, covering a total of two blocks. It was designed to be symmetrical from north to south and featured London plane trees in the two aisles leading to the San Francisco City Hall. In 1956, the Civic Center Plaza was rebuilt, following the construction of two underground structures: a parking garage and the Brooks Hall. There are also plans to redesign the plaza in 2018.

Another famous landmark of San Francisco is the Lotta's Fountain. Adorning the intersection of Market Street, Lotta's Fountain is listed in the US National Register of Historic Places and served as the meeting point, following the San Francisco earthquake in 1906. Roughly two miles from the fountain is the Konko Church of San Francisco. This age-old high-modernist church welcomes people of all faiths. Most locals and tourists would come to the church on New Year's Day and write a simple appreciation or apology letter on a paper before hanging it on a tree.
