Tripoli International Airport – TIP Tripoli, Libya
Tripoli International Airport (TIP) is one of the airports serving Tripoli, Libya and sits around 24km away from the city center. Starting 2011, many flights from Tripoli were redirected to the Mitiga International Airport after TIP has been intermittently closed due to the country-wide problems. In fact, during the 2014 Libyan Civil War, the airport was heavily damaged followed by the Mitiga Airport being out of commission.
Best Time to Visit
The TIP-Tripoli International Airport only had one passenger terminal serving both domestic and international flights. It covered 33,000 square meters of space contained in a five-story building. Prior to the problems, the airport can handle as much as 3 million passengers per year and was equipped with a duty-free section, a prayer room, and even a first class lounge. Airlines that used to utilize the facility include the Royal Jordanian Cargo, the Emirates SkyCargo, and the Turkish Airlines Cargo. Tripoli is the closest city to the airport and the site of the Red Castle Museum and statues from the Ottoman period. Due to these attractions, the city is often the go-to place of passengers prior to the governmental clashes.

Even the closest hotels to the airport take some time to get to. The An-Naher Hotel is already the closest one at 22.3km distance from the airport. This is followed by the Plasma Hotel with a distance of 24.7 km from the airport.
Another facility serving Tripoli, Libya is the MJI-Mitiga International Airport, which is the very same one being used today for domestic and international flights.
