Palanga International Airport with code PLQ is located in Palanga, Lithuania. This regional international airport is found in the town of Palanga which is considered a resort town and it is popular among tourists. The town is also on the outskirts of the Baltic Sea. The airport is the third largest airfield in the whole Lithuania. The airfield is serving short and middle routes to various European destinations. It serves as a gateway to various Baltic Sea Resorts in the nearby cities of Klaipeda and other parts of Latvia. Palanga International Airport was inaugurated in 1937. It was used by Lithuania Air Force as a training ground. After two years, there are first scheduled airline services then began operating on the route of Kaunas and Palanga. During the war, it was used by the Soviets as their airbase. A few years after the war, it became a civilian airport. In 1991, the airport became a state-owned facility. Sventoji and Vilimiske are two cities that are nearby the airport.
