Nuku Hiva Airport - NHV

The Marquesas Islands is composed of a group of volcanic islands in French Polynesia, which lies on the southern parts of the Pacific Ocean. The largest of the Marquesas Islands is Nuku Hiva, home to the Nuku Hiva Airport (NHV). The airport lies just 19 kilometers northwest of Nuku Hiva's Taiohae village, which was formed when a volcanic crater collapsed and created a bay.

Best Time to Visit

The Nuku Hiva Airport (NHV) is located on the northwest coastal region of the Nuku Island and is accessible via a two-hour drive from most of the villages of the island. The airport's runway is not equipped with lights and therefore relies on sunlight for visibility and causing flights to be scheduled during daytime. The control tower communicates using the French language exclusively. Heavier aircrafts are advised to provide advanced notice and clearance due to certain weight restrictions on the airport. Likewise, Jet-A1 refueling is also limited and requires advance notice. The limited space allows for only one aircraft parking at a time.
