Originally known as Monterey Peninsula Airport, Monterey Regional Airport was established in 1936 and officially renamed in 2011. The municipalities making up the Monterey Peninsula Airport District own MRY, but the airport located in Monterey, CA. Data from July 2018 through June 2019 show that the busiest route in the airport is that going to and from Phoenix, Arizona through American Eagle, with 64,150 passengers. This was followed by United Express’ flights to and from Los Angeles, California, with 53,220 passengers during the said period; and United Express’ flights to and from San Francisco, California, with 25,920 passengers.
