Dundee: The Village in the Valley
Dundee, South Africa is highly known for its rich coal mines and its military history. Seated in the Biggarsberg mountain valley, it is located between Durban and Johannesburg making the town an accessible pitstop route for those travelling in between those towns. Dundee used to be thriving coal mining down in 1882 when the Boers discovered its rich deposits. Though the town as decreased its coal mining business in the current years, it has invested much on its historical and scenic views that dates as far back as 100 years.

Visitors will be pleased to know that summer is the best season to visit Dundee. With its subtropical climate, the summers are most pleasant in this area with little to average rainfall. Expect Dundee hotels to be booked and full during this season as it is seen to be peak.

Dundee has a variety of tours and activities that will surely keep any visitor preoccupied. One of the popular tourist sites are Rorke’s Drift and Isandhlwana, both well-known and well-preserved historical battle sites. The town is also known to be the home of the Coal Mine Museums of South Africa and the Kwazulu-natal Golf Union member, Dundee Golf Club. There are also tours that cater to hunting, game viewing and fishing.
Muslim visitors will be delighted to know that the Dundee Mosque is quite close to the town center and open to all Muslim visitors and residents. It possesses facilities for both male and female worshippers and provides free parking.
