Basco – Prepare for an Intimate Vacation
Basco is the capital of Batanes, the northernmost province in the country of the Philippines. It is divided into six barangays, making it the largest municipality in the island. Basco, Philippines is specifically located on the Batan Island, the second largest of the ten Batanes Islands. Here, life moves at a slower pace compared to the busy life in the city. The surroundings of Basco is made up lush green mountains, beautiful lagoons, and breathtaking views. Though Batanes Islands has gone through a lot of invasions in the past owing to its location, the northernmost province still stands intact today. The invasions of the past giving it its unique flavor, with many remnants still standing today. Basco Airport (BSO) serves the area of Basco and the rest in the Batanes province.
Best Time to Visit
The Philippines is known for having two seasons, the wet and dry. It’s best to visit Basco during the dry season, roughly months from December to May. Flights are also offered during the wet season, but many are cancelled due to bad weather. There are a lot of festivals celebrated in Basco, but the main one is the Batanes Day, held every June 26.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Basco has a great coastline. A visit to Chadpidan Beach or the Nakabuang Beach is recommended with its fine white sand and pristine waters. Tourists can simply laze by the beach, grill fish, and enjoy. Also worthy of a visit is the Homoron Blue Lagoon. Only the Spaniards were allowed to bathe in this lagoon in the past, now it is open to anyone. Visit the Fundacion Pacita Lodge, the former house of internationally known artist, Pacita Abad and get to see her works up close and personal. A day isn’t enough to enjoy Basco, so stay the night at many of the hotels including Bernardo’s Hotel. This is a simple hotel with many rooms featuring terraces offering a great view. Residencia du Basco is another great option. It is a contemporary hotel with great views plus a short drive away from the famous Basco Lighthouse.
