The Xcel Energy Center is located in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It is a multi-purpose arena that is named for its corporate sponsor – Xcel Energy. The arena cans eat up to 17,900 people and it has four spectator levels. It is the home of the Minnesota Wild. Owned by the city, it is operated by Minnesota Sports & Entertainment, which is the Wild’s parent company. The Xcel Energy Center is also noted for serving as the venue for the 2008 Republican National Convention. Ground breaking on the area was done in 1998 and the arena opened in September 2000. HOK Sport was the architectural firm that handled construction. The area that the Xcel Energy Center now stands on was once the site of the St. Paul Civic Center.
