Tainan Airport – TNN
The Tainan Airport is one of the 18 civilian airports and one of the 4 international airports but the only one currently operating international flights. The airport is located in South District and serves Tainan, Taiwan and the nearby towns. The Tainan Airport, whose airport code is TNN, dates back to the era of the Japanese Rule when Tainan Prefecture government proposed to open an airport to address the growing need of civil transportation in southern Taiwan. It was in 1937 that the airport was formally opened as a public and commercial facility with flights to Matsuyama Airport.
Best Time to Visit
The TNN-Tainan Airport was converted to military airbase after the broke out of World War II. The United States Air Force named it Eineisho Airport during the war. From 1957 onwards, the airport was used as military base for United States and the Republic of China and at the same time for commercial transport. Before the inauguration of Taiwan High Speed Rail the airport was the third busiest in Taiwan. Passengers also experienced discomfort with the shared use of the airport by military and civilian since the terminal was far from the airfield and flight would be cancelled if there are military exercises. As of 2011, the airport was considered capable of handling international flights. You can easily drive to the tourists' sites of Cianjhen District and Fungshan District from the airport.
