Maryland’s State theater and Baltimore’s biggest theater production, Center Stage Theater, also now known as Baltimore Center Stage, was formed by a team of theater supporters in 1963 and eventually became the leading theatre movement in America. Initially, it was made of a converted gymnasium that can accommodate seated 240 spectators. Today, it is divided into two: one is the Head Theater and the other one is the bigger Pearlstone (540-seat), both of which where major performances are held. Inside the facility also sit several spaces, such as The Deering Lobby, France-Merrick Board Room, The Jay Andrus Rehearsal Hall, The Marilyn Meyerhoff Mezzanine, Nancy K. Roche Chapel, among others.
