Western Nebraska Regional Airport – BFF Scottsbluff
Western Nebraska Regional Airport with code BFF is also called William B. Heilig Field. It is geographically located 3 miles from the city of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The facility is owned and operated by Scottsbluff County local government. William B. Heilig is a well-known member of the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He is a flight instructor and served as a manager of the airport during the war. Currently, all flights are subsidized by the Essential Air Service Program. In 2008, the airport served over 10,000 passengers. As of today, it is classified as a non-primary commercial airfield.

The original airport was opened in 1934. It served commercial airlines, airmail service, and even a pilot training facility. During the war, the municipal airport was turned to a military airbase in the state of Nebraska. The cost of the project was roughly about $5.5 million. The airport was handed to the county in 1947. In 2003, major improvements were done like a new terminal and adding wildfire fence. The airport is serving the cities of Gering and Mitchell.
